Tired of hiding your smile due to dull, stained, or discolored teeth? It’s time to see a teeth whitening dentist! At the office of Travis A. Bell DDS PLLC in Greensboro, North Carolina, we offer in-office teeth whitening services that can brighten your smile instantly! The answers to the following FAQs can help you decide if teeth whitening is right for you.
Dental whitening can eliminate most stains caused by age, foods, beverages, and tobacco use. Stains caused by dental trauma, medications, or excessive fluoride use may not respond well to teeth whitening. However, we can still brighten your pearly whites with cosmetic bonding or veneers.
Absolutely! Dental whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile! The products and techniques used by dental specialists produce amazing whitening results without harming your gums or teeth. Just the same, we don’t recommend this treatment for children under the age of 13 or pregnant and nursing women.
If you carefully follow the aftercare instructions from your dentist, the results of dental whitening can last one to two years. Good oral care habits, regular dental cleanings, and periodic touch-ups from our dental team will keep your smile looking its best in the long term. We also recommend minimizing tobacco use and watching what you eat to help prevent future staining.
Dr. Bell will apply whitening gel to your teeth and let it sit for approximately 15 minutes to give it time to work. The peroxide in the gel breaks down stain molecules in the enamel and dentin of your teeth to give your smile a lighter appearance. Some whitening gels are self-activating, while others are activated by a special light. This process is repeated two or three times until your whitening goals are achieved. The procedure may take an hour or slightly longer to complete. For best results, we recommend a dental cleaning before whitening treatment.
The main side effect is tooth sensitivity, but not everyone experiences these symptoms. Any sensitivity is temporary and resolves within a few days of your treatment.
Dr. Bell also offers home whitening kits to brighten your smile gradually over a period of several weeks. Your kit comes with custom-fitted whitening trays, professional grade whitening gel and detailed instructions for their use. The trays fit perfectly over your teeth to prevent accidental spillage. We’ll guide you through your procedure to help you achieve optimal results.
